OUR HISTORY
Yong In Martial Arts Academy made its grand opening in Alexandria, VA. We have been opened for 27 years. Grand Master Woo's dream and goal was to make his place a monument for the community. Spreading his knowledge to anyone eager enough to join and learn the way of martial arts.
In 1997, Master Woo invited 20 masters for a Benefits Demonstration. These 20 masters, including Master Woo, visited 10 different states conducting a prestigious demonstration for all of their viewers. After the demonstration/expedition, Master Woo signed numerous children and adults for classes. When students started to spread the word about Master Woo's teachings, many government and military personnel joined Hapkido and Tae Kwon Do.
In the year 2000, Master Woo started Before/After School Programs to get more kids involved in Tae Kwon Do. After ten years of the program being opened, it has been a positive influence to the community. Every year more and more come and join because parents see the benefits this program gives them, and how much this martial arts can play a role in their child's everyday life's experiences.
In 2002, Master Woo received an invitation from Yong In University to bring 20 students to South Korea. The 20 students got to participate and watch class. They got to learn a lot about Korean Culture. They also took tours around visiting villages and towns to see the life of Korean culture. When the students got back, they realized in some ways how different and more disciplined Korea is than American Culture.
In 2011 Master Woo added many programs that kids and adults can participate: Tae Kwon Do, Before/After School Program, Spring/Summer/Winter Camps, Birthday Parties, and Family Fun events. There are many programs to choose from so feel free or eager to walk in and take a look around. If you're up to it you can start taking class right away!
Tae Kwon Do is one of the most systematic and scientific martial arts, which teaches more than mere physical fighting skills. It is a discipline, which shows ways of enhancing our spirit and life through training our body and mind. It is also a modern sport that has gained an international reputation, and stands among
the official games of the Olympics.
The main feature of Tae Kwon Do is that it is a free fighting combat sport using bare hands and feet to repel an opponent. It has become one of the world's most prominents sports with over 40 million practitioners from over 142 different countries. In 1994, the International Olympic Committee admitted Tae Kwon Do as an official event of the Olympic Games.
Tae Kwon Do is a total learning activity which improves a person's athletic abilities, self awareness, heightens concentration, increases self discipline, and self restraint. The self-discipline that develops as a result of learning and practicing the techniques usually carries over into other areas of an individual's lives.
Though very popular amongst different age groups, the most apparent benefits of studying Tae Kwon Do are found in the children. School grades often improve as a child learns to focus on objectives and work toward achievement. Our lessons are tailored to your child's age and skill level.
There are hundreds of benefits you can receive by studying Tae Kwon Do. When a student has just started, most are nervous, some are shy, a few are too excited, and a couple are humble; but by the end of class, they can't wait to come back for some more.
